self-portraits

CLICK ON IMAGE TO VIEW LARGER

In one of my first college drawing classes, we spent weeks working on self-portraits..
Neither of these were ever finished..

They make me laugh, because my eyes are SO HUGE... but it's funny that I can really see myself in them.. and strange at the same time.

printmaking

This is a print I made in a relief printmaking class at Oregon State. It was a combination of two different plates, one was a photo transfer type of plate that we exposed, and the other was a lino plate that I carved. The two were used together to create the final print.

The background text reads:
"When will it be okay to let someone love you? Is there ever a time when the direction you should go is clear and defined and for once somewhere you even want to go? When? When does that happen? ..Or do you have to make it happen.. be willing to take a chance for once in your life and put your heart out there with nothing but hope to guide you."

eventually, hopefully, I'll be able to add prints to my etsy shop :)

portland art museum

I went to the Portland Art Museum for the first time this month.

I can't believe I'd never been.

I could spend hours walking around any museum, and this was no exception.. no pieces of art really caught my eye until we got to the top floor.. and then I was basically enthralled. I stood in front of these four paintings for a good while.. I wasn't going to take a picture of them, I was just trying to soak in what I could.

but then I couldn't resist.

slight detour

so I fell off the face of the earth for about a month or so.. trying to finish school.. but as of this week I am officially a college graduate!

and I'm going to be back here, back creating.. back trying to take myself seriously, trying to take my art seriously.

Because I love it.
I really love it.

And I have so much free space cleared up in my head now.. no more "to-do" lists or homework.

I'm excited!

My current philosophy on life?

from me to Hollie:
"I'm going to take a personal term :).. but really. I want to get my life organized, kind of decompress, work on my art (for serious) and be happy and dance and hang out with you wonderful people.. figure out my goals and then start working towards them, as stress free as I can possibly be. so... let's get together, yea yea yea!"

So yea.. Let's do this thing :)

below, a photo of my graduation announcements:

next... I have to brainstorm ideas for thank you notes..

"Go be that starving Artist you’re afraid to be. Open up that journal and get poetic finally. Volunteer. Suck it up and travel. You were not born here to work and pay taxes. You were put here to be part of a vast organism to explore and create. Stop putting it off. The world has much more to offer than what’s on 15 televisions at TGI Fridays. Take pictures. Scare people. Shake up the scene. Be the change you want to see in the world. You’ll thank yourself for it."
