sunday sketching

more from the sketchbook...

sermon today? based on 1 Samuel 16:7 NAS But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

behold. a heart.

and some birds :) ...for good measure.

sermon sketching

I realized this past Sunday, sitting in church, that my mind gets flooded with inspiration when I'm sitting through a sermon.
This is probably my fault, it's probably grown out of doing little else BUT drawing during sermons for the entirety of my life.

Now that I try to sit and listen, my head still reels with ideas and wants to plan.

So.. this weeks Sunday Sketching?:

what was to be my studio

I still don't know whether I will get to use the prayer chapel or not.

These were my grand plans:

the verdict is still out however.

flight

The other day I saw a flock of birds take off and wanted to remember to do an illustration of birds just SOARING.

Hopefully soon. Kind of a scary thought.. it reminds me of the title Kelly Rae Roberts book Taking Flight, which (I think) chronicles her journey into becoming an artist..

ahhh!

foamcore fireplace

For Christmas last year, when I was working at Brown House, we decided to create a faux fireplace out of foamcore for one of the window displays.

I love how it came out, and I wish I'd stolen it back once we took down Christmas decorations.
I'm tempted to make one for my apartment, with a shelf mounted above it to act as a mantle... loveee.

halloween 2008

generally speaking, I don't dress up for halloween. I wasn't planning on doing anything special this last year, but one day inspiration struck me... and once that happens there's really not much you can do to stop me.

I decided to be a raspberry.

I think it turned out well :)

sketchbook

I love notebooks. Sketchbooks. Paper, in general, I suppose..
I tend to collect them... write my to-do lists, packing lists, grocery lists.

I've tried to designate specific "sketchbooks" or "inspiration" books or even "art journals" but they never stick.. until recently.

I bought a really nice leather graph paper notebook, that lives by my bed and is filled on a semi-regular basis with all of the sometimes inspired, mostly absurd notions that fill my mind at the exact moment I'm trying to empty it before I fall asleep.

I sort of love it.
